Introduction

Southern Business School is a pioneer and one of the most important Departments of the University of Southern Punjab (USP). The Southern Business School started working in 2010, soon after USP got degree-awarding status. Since their inception, the Best University in Multan opted innovative approach of imparting outcome-based business education with a close liaison of academia and industry. The Department has launched a variety of programs, including BBA (Hons), BBA (2.5), MBA Executive, MBA Non-business education after 16 years, MS Business Administration, and MBA 1.5 years.

The major focus is to develop quantitative analytical techniques and market-based knowledge, which enable them to prove valuable human capital for the industry and good citizens for the society. During the course of study, the students are provided a variety of training programs, counseling, and experience of the ever-changing corporate world.

Technology is a major tool of imparting business education, and students make bout to be acquainted not only with technology but also with have the capability to use it efficiently. Another focus area is to build communication skills and research aptitude among students through research assignments and presentations, besides sending them to public and private organizations to carry out 9-weeks internships after completing their course work for developing confidence and know-how to cope with existing and future challenges. Moreover, a spirit of entrepreneurship is created among the students so that they may be able to take self-initiative and start their own businesses rather than seeking employment. This is the result of outcome-based business education that currently thousands of the graduates of the Best University in Multan are not only serving in banking and industrial sectors of Pakistan but also working in Multinational companies abroad.

Students Code of Conduct

  • Southern business school stands committed to impart quality education to students and as part of its curriculum, to develop our students into well-disciplined and responsible professionals with having respect for character and fully accountable for their

  • These pages contain official policies of the School which the students are required to follow in letter and spirit at all times.
  • The School will enforce and implement these policies formally and swift disciplinary action will be taken against any student flouting any of the rules/policies contained

Attendance

  • In a semester system of education, regular attendance in the School classes and programs is essential to ensure that student has not missed any lesson or fallen behind in his/her academic work.
  • A student having less than 75% attendance in any subject will not be allowed to sit in the examination of that subject.
  • Attendance of students is monitored through manual and online system of roll call in each class by the concerned faculty member.
  • A late comer may sit in the class even after the instructor has already marked his/her absent.
  • Attendance after late arrival does not give the student any right to ask the instructor to mark his/her present.

Punctuality

Students are required to be seated in the specified class room five minutes before the appointed time for start of the class. Students are expected to be quiet and well behaved.

Dress Code

  • Students are required to wear decent and reasonable dressing i-e Shalwar Kameez with full sleeves and dopatta/scarf (Female), and Pent with Formal Shirts along with tie (Male)
  • Flip flops and other backless are not allowed.
  • Students should avoid flashy clothes, jewelry, anklet, open shoes or shoes with heals and noise.
  • Sleeveless shirts, Jeans with t- shirts or short shirts are not allowed.

Implementation criteria:

Administration and faculty will ensure strict compliance of the policy. First offence will be fined PkR 200/-Second offence will be fined PkR. 500/- along with a written warning OR the offence matter may be referred to the Disciplinary Committee.

Mobile Phone

  • Mobile Phones are not allowed in the class premises.
  • Implementation criteria: Student found using mobile phone in the in class will be fined PkR 500/- for the first time. Second offence will be fined Rs 1000/-. OR the offence matter may be referred to the Disciplinary

Identity Cards

  • Students are required to display their Institute Identity Cards prominently all the times while in the campus.
  • Implementation criteria: Faculty will ensure that students wear their ID cards. If a student found without ID card he/she will be fined Rs 200/-.

No Smoking Campus

  • The Institute is a ‘No Smoking’ area. Students are strictly forbidden to smoke in the Campus, inside the Institute premises, hostel and cafeteria or on the roads inside the Institute.
  • Implementation criteria: Administration and Faculty will monitor strict compliance of the policy. First offence will be fined Rs 500/-. Second offence will be fined Rs 1000/- along with a written warning OR the matter will be referred to the Disciplinary Committee.

Avoid Politics

  • Students are strictly forbidden to involve themselves in any political or sectarian activity whatsoever while in the Institute. This includes any sort of grouping among students for ulterior motives.
  • Implementation criteria: Administration and Faculty will monitor student’s activities and the matters or offenses will be forwarded to disciplinary committee.

Car Parking

  • Car stickers at nominal cost are available from the Institute Accounts Office and these stickers are to be displayed on the left top corner of the windscreen.
  • Cars with sticker are permitted only to be entered in the Institute.

Avoid Loitering

  • Loitering and languishing in and around the Institute premises or lawns in front of the Institute or corridors etc., is strictly prohibited.
  • Students may sit on the benches provided throughout the Campus during break time.
  • Implementation criteria: Administration and Faculty will ensure that the policy is implemented in letter and spirit and any violation case will be forwarded to disciplinary committee

Drinks / Eatables

  • Drinks and eatables can be taken only inside the cafeteria.
  • Eating and drinking at all other places is prohibited.
  • Implementation criteria: Administration and Faculty will ensure that the policy is implemented in letter and spirit and any violation case will be forwarded to disciplinary committee

Social Activities

  • For all social activities including small parties, written permission of the management will be required.
  • Students wishing to hold the above should fill in the form giving details of the event/party, number of students invited/ attending, date and place of such social event.
  • Implementation criteria: Administration and Faculty will ensure strict compliance of the policy. Willful disobedience will constitute an offence and will be suitably dealt with by the Disciplinary Committee

Wilful Defiance / Disobedience of Institute Rules / Instructions

  • Students are expected to read the notices/ instructions daily displayed on the Notice Board. All notices and instructions must be followed in letter and spirit.
  • Implementation criteria: Willful defiance/disobedience of these notices will constitute an offence and will be suitably dealt with by the Discipline Committee.

Radio/ Cassette Player/ Personal Stereo Set

  • Playing of personal radios, cassettes and personal stereos are not permitted in the Institute Campus.
  • Implementation criteria: Administration and Faculty will ensure strict compliance of the policy and any violation will be suitably dealt with by the Discipline Committee

Damage to Institute Property

  • Willful damage of any item of the Institute property is a serious offence.
  • Implementation criteria: Students found damaging Institute property will be required to replace the damaged item and in addition pay a fine which will be decided by the Discipline Committee.

Bullying / Fooling/ Ragging

  • The Institute does not allow any kind of fooling / bullying or ragging with new students.
  • To set a healthy environment all old-students are well advised to treat the new students with kindness and help or guide them for any problem they may be facing.
  • Implementation Criteria: Administration and faculty will ensure strict compliance of the policy and any violation will be suitably dealt with by the Discipline Committee

Littering

  • Students will not leave litter around the Institute Campus including cafeteria. Dust bins placed at various places should be used for disposal of litter/ garbage.
  • Implementation criteria: A fine of Rs 100/- will be imposed on anyone found leaving litter around the Institute Campus premises.

Balconies, Railings in Corridors, Reception Area & Main Entrance Door

  • Sitting or standing in balconies of classrooms is not allowed.
  • Protective railing in the corridors will not be used for sitting or leaning. Students are not allowed to sit on the stairs of the main entrance or the reception area.
  • Implementation criteria: Defaulters will be fined Rs 100/- and Rs 200/- for the first and second offence respectively. For the repeat offences the Discipline Committee will impose penalty.

Sign Boards/Notice Boards

  • Instructions on sign boards / notice boards displayed at various places on the Institute Campus will be strictly adhered to.

Play Field / Lawns / Garden

  • Crossing of play fields and lawns is prohibited. Students will always use the roads or paths.
  • Damaging trees, flowerbeds etc. is strictly forbidden.

Student Visitors

  • Students are not allowed to entertain visitors or friends in the Institute or take them around to visit the campus without the approval of competent authority.
  • Permission must be obtained from the DSA/Coordinator Student Affairs before inviting any guest to the Institute.

Creating Disturbance or Making a Noise

  • Students will not scream or shout or make unnecessary noise in the Corridors or the Academic blocks.

Procedure for Meeting Management & Paying Respect & Wishing

  • Students will pay proper respect to all members of the Management and the Faculty.
  • All employees of the Institute will be given due respect and courtesy at all times.
  • Students wishing to represent any point or requirement/request to the Management must not barge into any office of the Management.
  • Any group of students more than five in number if found barging into any office will be fined Rs 500/- each in the first instance, Rs 1000/- each in the second instance and OR the offence matter may be referred to the Disciplinary

Computer Laboratory

Discipline in Labs/Computer Lab

  • Students must NOT bring or consume food or drink in the laboratory.
  • Students are required to maintain the discipline during their stay in the lab.
  • Students will keep the labs clean and in tidy state at all times.
  • Students are required to display their ID Cards while visiting Computer lab.
  • Students are allowed to bring personal notebook to the computer lab but not allowed to connect personal notebook to Institute of Southern Punjab’s network.
  • Before leaving lab, students are required to shut down the computers properly and make sure that monitor, chair, keyboard and mouse are properly
  • Students are NOT allowed to make calls or attend cell phones in labs / Computer

Computer Lab Timings:

The operational hours of the Computer lab are as follow:

  • Monday to Friday: 09:00 am – 3:30pm.
  • Closed on Saturday, Sunday and Public Holidays.
  • Students are expected to send their last printouts to the printer by 03 pm as the printer will be turned off at 03:30 pm. This is to ensure that Network Administrator will have sufficient time to close the Computer lab. Students are expected to leave the lab by 3:45 pm sharp and NOT stay packing or sending data to the printer.
  • Printing: Students can get the printouts from book shop on payment.
  • Technical Support Concerning Internet/Computer Hard/Software: To get support for any computer related problems, students are required to contact concerned Lab staff.

General Rules

  • Each student is assigned one account during her enrolment with Institute of Southern Punjab. This account is to be used only by the particular student as long as He/she is a student of Institute of Southern Punjab.
  • Each account is password protected. A student should change his/her password regularly and should not divulge it to any other person.
  • Student needs to log into his/her account before using software in the Computer labs or using any printing facilities.
  • The laboratories are for the use of enrolled students of Institute of Southern Punjab.
  • Students maybe requested to present their ID card to authorized staff.
  • The laboratories and their facilities are provided for Institute course related, educational and research purposes only.
  • Students are not permitted to display or transmit offensive or obscene material, play computer games, or use web-based messengers. Unauthorized access to accounts, data or files on Institute or other computer systems is strictly forbidden.
  • Implementation criteria: Warning will be given to a first On second offence a student will have her account disabled for one week. On third offence a student will be referred to the Discipline Committee for further action.

Disciplinary Requirements:

  • Every student shall abide by the disciplinary regulations as made from time to time by the Management of the Institute.
  • All members of the School and other persons authorized for the purpose shall have authority, and it shall be their duty, to check disorderly or improper conduct or any breach of regulation by students of the Institute in any of the Institute Buildings, including any premises occupied by the Students or in the Institute grounds.
  • Any member of the Academic staff may, if he / she deems it necessary, require any student who is guilty of disorderly or improper conduct in a Lecture Room, Library or Laboratory to withdraw from the room, and may bring the offence to the notice of the Head of the School concerned or Disciplinary Committee.
  • Students shall be held responsible for making themselves acquainted with all Ordinances, Regulations and official notices related to them. They should act accordingly.
  • It shall be the duty of all students of the Institute in all their acts to observe and maintain within the boundaries of the Institute decent and peaceful behavior at all times.
  • Fines or other penalties may be imposed by the Disciplinary Committee, or by any other person to whom the Committee has delegated powers to act on its behalf, on any student of the Institute for any Breach of Regulations, or for any act of behavior detrimental to the good order of the Institute.
  • A student of SBS may be required to bear the cost of making good any damage to Institute property for which she may be responsible, which may be in addition to a fine or other penalty which she may have incurred in connection therewith.
  • The Librarian shall be responsible for maintaining order in the Library. The Librarian may require any person who is guilty of disorderly or improper conduct or of breach of regulations to withdraw from the Library or report the matter to the disciplinary committee.

Disciplinary Suspension or Dismissal

  • The Institute reserves the right to suspend or dismiss a student for violation of policies, regulations and discipline code or of conduct inimical to the best interest, or for shortage of attendance, or for attempting to use unfair means during classes, quizzes or examinations. Management decision in all student matters shall be final.

Co-Curricular Activities

  • There shall be Students’ Societies of the SBS for the Promotion of the general interests of students and to afford an organized channel of communication between students and the outside business environment.
  • Members of the academic staff may be appointed/ nominated for coordination of different societies of the Institute.
  • Each society is required to conduct at least tree activities in a semester. The purpose of activity should be enhancement of general knowledge and personality development in the student body.
  • Full details of decisions to conduct an activity must be published by the society and the notice made available to all students and to Management of the Institute.
  • Members of the society shall be:

Library Rules

  • Students desirous of using the library must get themselves registered by applying for library membership on a prescribed form. A registered student will be issued a library card.
  • Students are not allowed to drink or take food in the Library.
  • Student will not disturb the placement of tables and chairs.
  • Any damage or inappropriate use of equipment is unacceptable.
  • Students are NOT allowed to make calls or attend cell phones in Labs / Computer labs.

Noise Levels

  • Students must respect the “SILENCE’ rule in the Library.
  • Walkman is not allowed in library.
  • Students are not allowed to attend any call in the library or use their mobiles in the library.
  • Implementation criteria: Student found using mobile phone in the Institute premises will be fined PkR 500/- for the first time. Second offence will be fined PkR 1000/-. OR the offence matter may be referred to the Disciplinary

General Behavior

  • Loud noise or misbehavior with the library staff may lead to library temporary expulsion of the student from the library.
  • Personal belongings and bags should be placed on the shelf near the main entrance in the Library.

Circulation of Library Books

  • Books may be retained for a period not more than two weeks by students.
  • Books may be renewed on request.
  • Dictionaries, Encyclopedias, Handbooks & other reference materials will not be issued.
  • In case the loan of the book is not renewed, failure to return the book in time will render the student to a fine from the date when the book was due.
  • Damaging the pages of a book, marking or writing there in with ink or pencil, tearing or taking out pages, or otherwise damaging, it will constitute an injury to a book. Any such injury to a book is a serious offence unless a borrower points out the injury at the time of borrowing the book, she shall be required to replace the book or pay its price.
  • Fine Over Due Books: A fine of PkR 10/- per day per book will be charged on overdue on general books and overdue fine on temporarily issued materials would be PkR 50/- per day.
  • Loss of Books: The book lost, in anyway shall have to be replaced or three times the cost of book will be paid by the concerned student.

Prohibited Activities

  • Unauthorized medicine or drugs and solvents.
  • Explosive, firearms and inflammable liquids etc.
  • Betting, lending or gambling.
  • Possession or use of fire arms, weapons etc.
  • Unauthorized possession of any key of the Institute.
  • Going to the roof top for any purpose.
  • Visiting Administration block except for payment of fees.
  • Visiting Administration block in groups.

Students’ Interaction with Faculty

  • Student’s interaction with Faculty should be limited to Academic pursuits only.
  • Students are not expected to socialize with Faculty and Administration staff more than what is necessary for acquiring quality education in the Institute.
  • Students are forbidden to visit the Faculty in their houses or in the Faculty mess either individually or in groups.
  • Students’ interaction with Faculty should pertain to studies or any difficulties faced in studies. This interaction should be during the Institute timings.
  • Implementation criteria: Any students found violating any of the above clauses will be punished. First time fine will be Pkr 500/-; Second time Pkr 1000/- and Or the violation case will be forwarded to disciplinary committee
