Research Interests

My research interest focuses on cross-cultural design, particularly in the field of furniture decoration and its relevance in contemporary interior design. My MPhil study, titled “Cross-Cultural Perspectives in Furniture Decoration: A Comparison Between Ming Dynasty Chinese Furniture and Chinioti Pakistani Furniture and Their Significance in Contemporary Interior Design,” explores how traditional design practices from different cultures influence modern aesthetics.

This research presents a comparative study of Ming Dynasty Chinese furniture, known for its simplicity, structural elegance, and minimalism, and Chinioti Pakistani furniture, recognized for its intricate carving, ornamentation, and cultural richness. By analyzing these traditions, I aim to identify key similarities and differences in their design philosophies, materials, and decorative approaches.

A central aspect of my interest is understanding how these traditional elements can be adapted into contemporary interior design. In today’s globalized design environment, integrating cultural heritage with modern practices offers opportunities for innovation while preserving identity.

Through this research, I seek to contribute to the field of design by highlighting the importance of cultural influence, craftsmanship, and aesthetic continuity in shaping meaningful and contextually rich interior spaces.
