M.Phil English Literature

Program Scope

The Master of Philosophy in English Literature program is designed for academic and cultural training of scholars. The program builds critical understanding of genres of creative writing, literary theoretical frameworks, scholarly critiques, and interdisciplinary approaches in the domain of English literary studies. A variety of traditional and innovative courses, covering various areas of English literary Studies, will be offered to ensure a comprehensive exposure to the field. Through core and specialization courses, scholars will be engaged with complex cultural texts, theoretical debates, and discourses, enabling them for independent research. The program will culminate in a research thesis, enabling students to contribute original critical insights to various branches of the field. The MPhil English Literature program will enable the graduates to efficiently perform academic, professional, and social roles.

The MPhil English Literature program is structured in accordance with the HEC Graduate Education Policy-2023 and the HEC Revised Curricula for English Degree Programs-2025

Program Objectives

The objectives of the MPhil English Literature program are:

    1. To equip the scholars with advanced knowledge in various fields of literary studies.
    2. To develop research skills and analytical approach informed by theoretical perspectives.
    3. To prepare articulate scholars with critical acumen for teaching and professional roles.

Eligibility Criteria

  1. An undergraduate degree (involving 16 years of education) in English or any of its specialized areas is the basic eligibility requirement for admission.
  2. The university will conduct an admission test as an eligibility condition for admission to the program, with a passing score of 50%.

 GRE / HAT General / equivalent tests, with a passing score of 50%, are acceptable.

Programs Learning Outcomes (PLOs)

Demonstrate advanced knowledge of literary writings, theoretical, analytical, and interdisciplinary frameworks in literary studies.

Critically analyze and evaluate complex texts and theoretical discourses, integrating scholarly perspectives from the domain of literature to construct coherent and well-supported arguments.

Design and conduct independent, methodologically sound research in literary studies adhering to ethical standards and academic conventions.

Develop ideas and communicate interpretations effectively through advanced written and oral expression.
