M.Phil English Linguistics

Program Scope

The Master of Philosophy in English Linguistics program is designed to train scholars for academic and professional career paths. The program will provide advanced knowledge in linguistics and build understanding of the latest developments in the scientific study of languages, theoretical discourses, scholarly inquiry, and interdisciplinary approaches in the domain of linguistics. Through core and specialization courses, scholars will be engaged with analysis of language structures, methodological designs, and cultural discourses, preparing them for independent research. Rigorous exposure to research skills is an integral part of the program. The program will culminate in a research thesis, enabling students to contribute original insights to various fields of theoretical and applied linguistics. Graduates with MPhil English Linguistics will be equipped for academic, professional, and cultural roles requiring advanced analytical and communication skills.

The MPhil English Linguistics program is structured in accordance with the HEC Graduate Education Policy-2023 and the HEC Revised Curricula for English Degree Programs-2025

Program Objectives

The objectives of the MPhil English Linguistics program are:

To equip the scholars with advanced knowledge in various fields of linguistics.
To enhance advanced research skills informed by problem-solving strategies.
To prepare scholars with high-quality communication skills for teaching and professional roles.

Eligibility Criteria

An undergraduate degree (involving 16 years of education) in English or any of its specialized areas is the basic eligibility requirement for admission.
The university will conduct an admission test as an eligibility condition for admission to the program, with a passing score of 50%.

GRE / HAT General / equivalent tests, with a passing score of 50%, are acceptable.
