M.Phil Mathematics

Introduction

M.Phil. Mathematics program aims at producing graduate students in Mathematics who can contribute to the scientific, technological, and educational advancement of the country. The curriculum of M.Phil. Mathematics comprises of 8 courses. The courses can be selected from a wide range of available courses. The curriculum is designed to build the basic concepts of the students and to help them in attaining deep insight into the relevant field. As per HEC approved criteria, the Mathematics department of the Best University in Multan offers two kinds of M.Phil. Mathematics degrees are mentioned below. (a) MS/M.Phil. by course work (30 credit hours) (b) MS/M.Phil. by Thesis (24 credit hours course work + 06 credit hours thesis) Four courses of 12 credit hours are to be offered in the first semester as well as in the second semester. For this program, 8 permanent Ph.D. faculty members and 9 visiting Ph.D. faculty members are on board.

Eligibility Criteria

  • BS/BS 2.5(Mathematics) with CGPA 2.5/4.00 or MSc (Mathematics) 2nd Division (C-Grade) or Equivalent degree.
  • The GAT-General (Category-C)/USP-Admission Test with a minimum 50% cumulative score.

NOC

For M.Phill Mathematics program NOC is granted by HEC Pakistan.

Program Educational Objectives (PEOs)

On the basis of demonstrated knowledge of Mathematics the graduates shall be able to provide the solutions of complex problems concerning Mathematics and the allied areas

The students will have the ability to identify and analyze the complex mathematical problems in the field of pure and applied Mathematics.

The students will have the ability to find appropriate methods, techniques and software for attaining the solutions of complex mathematical problems.

The students will have the ability to investigate difficult Mathematical problems in methodical way include literature review, design and collection of initial evaluation data, and finalized the gathered information to deuce and prove valid results. 

The students will have the ability to use modern mathematical software to solve problems and analysis the solutions. 

An ability to apply mathematics using quantitative sophistication in everyday life to compute for making purchasing decisions, choosing insurance or health plans, and voting knowledgeably.

An ability to conserve the values of Mathematics, which is one of the greatest cultural and intellectual achievements of human-kind, by understanding its achievement in providing the optimal solutions to mankind for the sustainability of the world. 

Apply ethical principles and commit to professional ethics and responsibilities and norms with mathematical community and society

An ability to work effectively, as an individual or in a team, on multifaceted and /or multidisciplinary settings.

An ability to communicate effectively, orally as well as in writing, on mathematical concepts with the community of mathematicians and with society at large, such as being able to comprehend and write effective reports and design documentation, make effective presentations, and give and receive clear instructions.

The students will have the ability to demonstrate management skill by applying Mathematical reasoning to one’s own work, as a member or leader in a team, to manage research projects in different branches of Mathematics.
